Data Aggregation and Navigation Guide
Welcome to the NVIDIA Omniverse™ USD Explorer Data Aggregation and Navigation Guide. This guide shows new Omniverse users how to import and connect various 3D data types into a unified view, then navigate and review them individually or across project teams. If you’re developing complex industrial facility 3D models of factories, warehouses or semiconductor fabs, this guide is for you.
This guide will help you understand the essentials of working with Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD), how to import data from various tools and sources, how to share data, and how to present projects across varying deployments.
Some fundamental knowledge of 3D and tools typically surrounding industrial workflows will be helpful and is strongly recommended.
Ensure you have Omniverse USD Explorer installed on your workstation or virtual workstation. See Installation Options .
Begin with the fundamentals of USD Explorer, an Omniverse foundation application, including navigating the UI and learning about the two user modes.
Import your data from various tools and formats, including import of most 3D file formats through the CAD Converter or a direct link through Omniverse Connectors.
Understand the fundamental aspects of working with OpenUSD scenes to aggregate your data and prepare for non-destructive, collaborative workflows.
When configuring your scene in USD, it’s important to plan ahead to ensure your aggregate datasets are legible, modular, performant, and navigable. Harness the power of USD by learning more about concepts like Layers, Instances, References, and Payloads.
Understand the fundamentals of moving through your 3D scene with ease, including how to Orbit, Teleport, and use your mouse and keyboard to move around.
Once you’ve aggregated your data in the scene, discover how to optimize your layouts by placing, moving, and editing assets and materials.
Illuminate your scenes by adding direct and environmental lighting to simulate real-world scenarios.
Leverage markup, waypoints, and measure tools to review your scene, document changes and points of interest, check dimensions, and prepare for multi-user reviews.
Learn how to collaborate in real-time with others to solve problems with your team.
