1. Introduction

What is DRIVE AGX? What is DRIVE Software? Common terminology explained here.

1.1. NVIDIA DRIVE

Scalable AI Platform for Autonomous Driving

Autonomous vehicles will transform the way we live, work, and play, creating safer and more efficient roads. To realize these revolutionary benefits, the car of the future will require a massive amount of computational horsepower. Tapping into decades-long experience in AI, NVIDIA DRIVE™ hardware and software solutions deliver industry-leading performance to help automakers, truck makers, tier 1 suppliers, and startups make autonomous driving a reality.

NVIDIA DRIVE™ platforms include an in-vehicle computer (DRIVE AGX) and complete reference architecture (DRIVE Hyperion™), as well as data center-hosted simulation (DRIVE Constellation™) and deep neural network (DNN) training platforms (DGX™). These platforms also include rich software developer kits (SDKs) to accelerate autonomous vehicle (AV) development.

1.2. NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Developer Kit

The NVIDIA DRIVE™ AGX Developer Kit provides the hardware, software, and sample applications needed for development of production level autonomous vehicles (AV). NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Developer Kit is suitable for any autonomous vehicle ecosystem developer requiring an autograde AI computing platform that meets safety standards (such as ISO 26262/ASIL-D, ISO/PAS 21448), is compliant with key regulatory requirements (such as NHTSA, Euro NCAP), has an open software framework and a large ecosystem of automotive partners (including auto grade sensor vendors, automotive Tier 1 suppliers) to choose from.

The development environment for DRIVE AGX requires a host development machine (not included with the DRIVE AGX Developer Kit). The image below illustrates the development workflow. All the tools illustrated below are installed on the host machine through NVIDIA SDK Manager.

1.3. NVIDIA SDK Manager

NVIDIA SDK Manager provides an end-to-end development environment setup solution for NVIDIA's DRIVE and Jetson SDKs for both host machine and target devices.

1.4. DRIVE Software

NVIDIA DRIVE™ Software provides end-to-end vehicle architecture for developing autonomous vehicles. The platform is designed for flexibility to allow customization of the software to meet specific vehicle implementation needs.

DRIVE Software consists of:

  • NVIDIA DriveWorks SDK, NVIDIA DRIVE™ IX SDK, NVIDIA DRIVE™ AR, and NVIDIA DRIVE™ OS.

  • DRIVE Applications including NVIDIA DRIVE™ AV ("Roadrunner") and NVIDIA DRIVE™ IX Applications.

  • Developer tools for developing, compiling, debugging, and profiling the software.

  • DRIVE OS Linux 5.1.6.1, including: NVIDIA® CUDA® 10.2, NVIDIA® TensorRT 5.1, and cuDNN 7.5.x.

  • NVIDIA TU104 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

The software development kits required to develop applications for CUDA, cuDNN, and TensorRT are available on your host development system. With DRIVE Software 10.0, only the runtime components for CUDA, cuDNN, and TensorRT are flashed to the DRIVE AGX Developer Kit target system.

Note:  DRIVE Applications require NVIDIA DRIVE™ Hyperion 7.1 Developer Kit.
This DRIVE Software release may only be used for test and development.

The individual components installed on Xavier A and Xavier B are as follows:

 Xavier A   Xavier B
DRIVE OS DRIVE OS
DRIVE AV (includes Roadrunner with DriveWorks SDK Samples)   DRIVE AV (includes Roadrunner with DriveWorks SDK Samples)
DRIVE IX
DRIVE AR
DRIVE Hub
DRIVE OTA DRIVE OTA

There are several recommendations for optimum performance:

  • Use Xavier A for all DRIVE AV development and testing.

  • Use Xavier B for all DRIVE IX development, testing, and the Recorder Tool.

  • Use both Xavier A and Xavier B for the DRIVE AV Pre-Flight Checker (PFC) Tool.

The DRIVE Software stack is as follows:
