Following the PVA SDK Tutorials with ASIP Programmer#
The step-by-step tutorials use the standard EMU, NVVPU, and LLDB workflow. After installing the optional
ASIP Programmer addition, the same tutorial sources can be built for a target platform with ASIP Programmer.
The build system selects it automatically when it is available; pass PVA_USE_NVVPU=OFF to make that
selection explicit.
For example, configure the tutorial project for Linux or QNX with:
cmake -S samples/public/tutorial -B build-l4t \
-DPVA_BUILD_MODE=L4T -DPVA_USE_NVVPU=OFF
cmake --build build-l4t
cmake -S samples/public/tutorial -B build-qnx \
-DPVA_BUILD_MODE=QNX -DPVA_USE_NVVPU=OFF
cmake --build build-qnx
The VPU programming and optimization material applies to both compilers. In particular, both accept hints
such as chess_unroll_loop and emit comparable disassembly and map output for inspecting instruction
packing, code layout, and linked routines.
Native Model#
To build and run tutorial applications with the optional native model, configure with
PVA_BUILD_MODE=NATIVE. See Native Model for package requirements, runtime generation
selection, debugging, and model limitations.
ChessDE debugging#
The LLDB tutorial applies to NVVPU binaries. For an ASIP Programmer build, use the ChessDE workflows in
On-chip Debugging or Debug over IP with ChessDE instead. The
ChessDE Debugging Tutorial walks through a debugging session with the
debugging tutorial application.
