Design Practitioner Overview

This demo is a recording of a real-time design session utilizing an AECO dataset featuring three design workflows and one project manager working in Omniverse Enterprise. With Omniverse, you can work across multiple DCC tools simultaneously, seeing the changes instantaneously in Omniverse Create and Omniverse View. NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise is a game-changing reference platform for collaboration and real-time true-to-reality simulation. Widespread project teams can now maximize productivity, enhance communication, and boost innovation while collaborating on the same 3D model from anywhere.

The scenes used for this lab have been imported into Omniverse from Rhino and Revit. Although you can import various file types into the Omniverse ecosystem, connectors installed in digital content creation applications provide the best level of connectivity with many offering Live Sync to get instantaneous feedback. Two key components are Omniverse Nucleus and Connectors which are continually gaining improvements in connectivity and compatibility.

Omniverse Nucleus

Omniverse Nucleus is the collaboration and database engine at the core of the Omniverse platform. Nucleus allows users to store, share, and collaborate on project data and provides the unique ability to work synchronously across multiple applications. Nucleus can be deployed on a local workstation with Nucleus Workstation, or on-premises via Enterprise Nucleus Server.

Omniverse Connectors

Omniverse Connectors open the portals that allow 3D content creation tools to connect to the Omniverse platform and save USD and MDL content. With Omniverse Connectors, users continue to work with their favorite industry software applications. Connectors function on a publish and subscribe model, sending changes between the client and Omniverse Apps through Nucleus. There are varying fidelities of Connectors for Omniverse - bi-directional Connectors are the highest fidelity - when changes are made in the client application, changes are reflected instantaneously in Omniverse, and vice versa.

Universal Scene Description (USD)

Pixar’s open-source Universal Scene Description (USD) is a powerful scene representation and interchange framework that enables complex property inheritance, instancing, layering lazy loading, and a wide variety of other key features. Omniverse uses USD for interchange through Nucleus.

Many 3rd party DCC tools are supported by Connectors but we are showcasing three examples below. You may wish to go through all three or simply follow the Connector that fits your workflow best.

Please refer to our Omniverse product documentation for more information on how to use NVIDIA Omniverse Connectors for Autodesk Revit, McNeel & Associates Rhino, Autodesk 3dsMax, and many more!

Within this LaunchPad lab, you will have access to two scenes to experiment with: an outdoor park and an indoor kitchen. We set the stage for 3 users to collaborate on the design and review tasks using Omniverse Create and Omniverse View.

With simultaneous collaboration, edits and iterations are made instantaneously to a project file, at any layer resulting in faster time to production with less workflow redundancy and waste. Omniverse eliminates the need for tedious, linear export-import workflows. One-click to ultra-high fidelity, immersive visualizations mean clients, project managers, and reviewers can see true-to-reality representations of their projects for instant feedback, increased confidence, and reduced levels of uncertainty.

Although you won’t get to experience collaborating with content creation tools like Autodesk Revit, McNeel & Associates Rhino, and Autodesk 3ds Max you will still get the feel for collaboration within the Omniverse Apps and the new levels of creativity and efficiency of collaborative, connected workflows with Omniverse.

Omniverse Create

Omniverse Create is an advanced world-building application that accelerates advanced scene composition and allows designers to assemble, light, simulate, and render massive, full-fidelity scenes interactively in real time.

Note

Please refer to the appendix of this lab to learn essential Omniverse app skills which you will be applying in the hands-on lab to enhance your content creation workflow. You can simply refer to these skills as needed during your hands-on lab or you may try these individual skills for yourself using the supplied scenes.
