Relying on the fact that the NIC hardware “knows” the network time, the ConnectX-6 Dx and later are able to signal the hardware to transmit a packet at a specific network time. The idea is that the software can place a fencing command inside any queue against a specific network time. This command will block all the following packets in the same queue from being transmitted.
