Prerequisites#

Before you begin, make sure that your environment meets the following high-level prerequisites:

  • Virtualization: Install OpenShift Virtualization and verify that its KubeVirt, Containerized Data Importer, and HyperConverged resources are healthy. Use the versions of oc and virtctl provided for the cluster.

  • Compute and GPU: Provide a bare-metal virtual machine (VM) node with hardware virtualization, input-output memory management unit (IOMMU) support, sufficient CPU and memory, and the required huge pages. Configure GPU Operator sandbox workloads, Virtual Function I/O (VFIO) Manager, the sandbox device plugin, and the permitted GPU resource.

  • Network: Provide the management network and the media NetworkAttachmentDefinition, Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) virtual function (VF) resource, IP addressing, VLAN, MTU, multicast, and timing configuration. The networking team supplies these values.

  • Storage: Provide a storage class supported by OpenShift Virtualization with sufficient capacity for the uploaded image, VM root disk, and snapshots.

  • Image creation: Provide a Linux build host with qemu-img, the selected operating-system installation media, and access to the required application installation files.

Follow the applicable operating-system procedure in Create a Virtual Machine Image for guest drivers, Rivermax, license handling, runtime initialization, and validation steps. You can add application-specific values to those procedures as you validate them.

Do not include passwords, cluster credentials, API keys, or license files in the released QCOW2 image.
