Since 20.1: NovaCore prevents the NVIDIA vGPU Manager service from starting on Ubuntu 26.04#

Description#

On an Ubuntu 26.04 hypervisor host, the NVIDIA vGPU Manager service fails to start if the nova_core kernel module has bound to the GPU. When this issue occurs, the kernel log reports that the GPU is already bound to NovaCore and that no NVIDIA devices were probed. This issue occurs because NovaCore is not supported for NVIDIA vGPU software.

Workaround#

  1. Blacklist the nova_core kernel module.

    echo "blacklist nova_core" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

  2. Update the initial RAM file system.

    sudo update-initramfs -u
