20.0-20.2 Only: After vGPU migration, a vGPU VM might crash or applications might fail with XID error 43#

Description#

Immediately after the first successful vGPU migration following a VM reboot, XID error 43 might occur in the destination VM. The issue is not specific to a particular GPU.

This issue affects Windows and Linux guest VMs on VMware vSphere ESXi.

  • In a Windows VM, the effects of this issue are as follows:

    • A blue-screen crash might occur.

    • Device Manager might report error code 43 for the GPU.

    • Applications might fail or crash.

    • The remote session might be disconnected.

  • In a Linux VM, the effects of this issue are as follows:

    • Applications might hang or crash.

    • The remote session might be disconnected.
